This time our dreams lasted for 39 minutes and 30 seconds, then they were shattered by a precise and powerfull distance shot right under the crossbar. Our Keeper Cristian had no chance.
Everything started so well, we had managed some good changes in formation and played much better than we did the first two matches.
This time it was Cristian as a goalkeeper again, Raj and me as defenders and Matt, Max, Patrice and Alex as midfielders. One of them was substituted once in a while, but we didn´t change the formation in defense, because Raj and me cooperated well. This day, Gerrardo was missing out.
There were some good chances, both teams could have scored, but it was us marking the first goal. Patrice finished a counterattack only 2 minutes before the referee blew the whistle for the halftime break. All in all we earned our lead, because the quality of our chances was better and we were better in defense. And we went in the lead at a good time. Max: “The timing of the goal was just perfect, they´ll have to deal with that during the break.”
After the break, our opponent got stronger. They brought some good and fresh substitutes into the game and our condition was just not good enough to keep our good performance. That´s the problem, if your team is composed of office workers, students and wannabe professional salsa dancers:-)
The result was an equalizer, which was a bit lucky, but alltogether deserved. Until that time only our excellent keeper Cristian had saved us from taking the 1-1.
We still had our chances to mark another goal, but there were only a few of our counterattacks, we were under pressure most of the time.
Only 30 seconds before the end, the ref made a false decision. It should have been our throw-in, but he gave the ball to the other team. We were a bit irritated, they played it fast and the point we longed for, slipped away with a beautiful hit by our opponent.
Alltogether we deserved this the defeat, but not with that kind of bitter end.
The spirit in the changing-room was good anyway, because we felt that we have really improved and if we play like this in the next game, we might get a chance to win our first point or even match.

some people over here are about to jump into a plane in order to improve your team, especially the defense, and start winning matches against those argentinians…
anyway, i am a big fan of your colombian goalkeeper higuita-look-a-like-dude.
in terms of hairstyles you must be the number one team around.

  2. JEG

In terms of hairstyles we are leading the board by far! We´ve got long black hair (Cristian), half-long Rastas (Patrice) and long blond hair (me), just into the eyes-hair (Alex), military short hair (Raj) and two civilized haircuts (Max and Matt).
I think we could need one more player-think about, Marco…

  3. Patrice

They did not deserve the win Jan. They weren’t that good so stop sucking them off. We desrved it. End of.

  4. Robby

So the “German goal machine” is now strengthening the defence and without him the attacking line is lacking the creative element. Inspired by you guys I’ll let my hair grow again for the Carlos Valderrama hairstyle, catch a plane to BA and join my homie Rene Higuitta. Jancito, I noticed that you nominated Robinho as right defender!? I feel honoured to be part of the dream team, but we might have to slightly change the formation…

Since the 25th of January I am in Lima and will stay here for a while. This is a blog about my time in Latin America. I have been here since the 4th of dec 2007 when I arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I've been traveling to Chile and and Argentina in december 2007 and the lived in Buenos Aires for a year. During that I time I traveled to Uruguay with Nev from Australia in March 2008 and to Patagonia in October together with Robby, Vildan and Anahita from my hometown in Germany. In december 2008 I traveled alone to the northwest of Argentina. There I met up with Robby and we traveld together to Bolivia and Peru. I started this blog on the 4th of April 2008 so you won't find any posts about Uruguay or Chile in here.
