Monday Night (5th of May 2008) I was invited to a surprise birthday party. Cristina, whom you should know through my post “No drama”, had organized a celebration of her sister Natalia’s birthday, which was on tuesday. I asked my former roommate Marc-Ange to join me at the party, he only lives two blocks from Natalia and Cristina and is the perfect party companion, he can drink a lot and still speak Spanish.

I arrived at the party at around 22 p.m., carrying a big bottle of Gin and two bottles of Tonic. I didn’t plan to drink it alone, but Marc-Ange, with whom I was willing to share it, arrived two hours late. If I remember it right, he was the only guest arriving after surprised Natalia.

No worries, I didn’t drink the Gin alone! I started with a yummy Punch and waited with the Gin until Marc-Ange arrived.

I got to know several interesting people, for example Olaf form Germany and Sheyla from Peru, a couple living in Buenos Aires. They were accompanied by their friend Ken from the USA.  Olaf is working freelance as a translator and Sheyla is teaching Spanish. If I understood it right, Ken is just being lazy and besides looking for a job as a webdesigner. I also got to know Juan, a Psychologist, who has his surgery in the Palermo neighbourhood. He must be very rich, Psychologists are a big deal in BA, everyone has one.

4 different persons and 3 languages to talk to them. I couldn´t manage speaking in 3 languages at the same time, when I just learned Spanish. But now it works very well. As a challenge, I could start refreshing my french now:-)

The party went on very well, the music mix was perfect. Cristina played some good Reggaeton-songs, some Classical Pop-songs and some other good music and although it was Monday Night, they played it really loud. I was told that neighbours in Buenos aires are very tolerant in general.

The surprise was really a surprise for Natalia and she was very happy, smiling all the time, all over her face. She even started dancing, she’s pretty good with Salsa. Some others joined in and so did I, but not for long.

Marc-Ange introduced me to a drink I didn´t know before: Fernet con Sprite. I think the clue was, that I couldn’t taste the sprite – Fascinating, but I preferred to get back to the Gin.

And than I had this strange hair discussion. Estefania and Luli were attracted by my hair, saying it was amazing. I told them that this was probably, because I had just washed it and so they wanted to know the name of my shampoo. Of course I didn’t know, because boys just don’t care about their shampoo and usually they do not talk about it. Well, I had a look now, my shampoo is called “Suave” and I use their conditioner as well. “Suave” should be the cheapest brand for shampoos here in Argentina and this is why I use it and probably because of the nice package. Pictures will be taken;-) I couldn’t resist touching Estefania’s and Luli’s hair. Guess what-mine feels really better. It’s because they used some hairspray or something.

I left the party as one of the last guests at around 2.30h and took the bus home. This is so great about Buenos Aires, no matter what time it is, there is always a bus.

Since the 25th of January I am in Lima and will stay here for a while. This is a blog about my time in Latin America. I have been here since the 4th of dec 2007 when I arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I've been traveling to Chile and and Argentina in december 2007 and the lived in Buenos Aires for a year. During that I time I traveled to Uruguay with Nev from Australia in March 2008 and to Patagonia in October together with Robby, Vildan and Anahita from my hometown in Germany. In december 2008 I traveled alone to the northwest of Argentina. There I met up with Robby and we traveld together to Bolivia and Peru. I started this blog on the 4th of April 2008 so you won't find any posts about Uruguay or Chile in here.
